Last night Baker Hostetler, in partnership with The Hatchery and SourcePad, co-hosted the first “Are You Serious” pitch event of 2016. “Are You Serious” is a fast-paced, New York-style pitch event focused on emerging tech companies. Select entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to pitch their companies to a panel of venture capital investors who provide critiques of each presentation. The panel provides comments on everything from marketing, to finance, technology, business, sales, and communication skills. Are You Serious is designed to improve both the content and delivery of the entrepreneurs’ presentations, and, at the same time, provide a better understanding of what will be expected at future pitches.

The event was held at Baker Hostetler’s New York offices, and included presentations from five tech companies seeking additional funding to help them move beyond the seed funding level. Entrepreneurs from Concentric, a marketing analytics company; Wealthbot.io, a financial technology company; Twiage, a cloud based telemedicine company for first responders; Lendoor, a crowdfunding website for small business; and Brick & Portal, an online personal shopping platform for women, made their pitches to a panel of venture capitalists from 37 Angels, Klifer Capital, Luca Point Ventures, and B2B Ventures.

The event was attended by over 100 audience members, many of whom were tech company founders themselves. As with past events co-hosted by Baker Hostetler, The Hatchery, and SourcePad, the event was followed by a networking reception attended by several Baker Hostetler attorneys. The next pitch event is scheduled for September 22, 2016.
